Computers and arts
Scientists, engineers, designers, doctors and technicians are not the only ones who benefit from the use of computers today. Although mathematic calculations and complex operations performed by computers for building a house, a bridge, a car or for saving a patient's life are crucial in today's life, there are other spheres of the human activity that can be improved by automation of processes they involve. Today computers and computer technologies have become an important tool in the work of writers, artists, painters, musicians, and representatives of many other types of arts.
Using computers in arts is not just a fashionable trend of global computerization, it's becoming a necessity because it helps artists to forget about some technical aspects of their work and focus on creativity without being distracted by unimportant thing.
The first example is writing. When writing a book the easiest way to do it for an author is to use a computer word processor. Of course, the invention of typewriters back in history has increased the speed of writing considerably and was in fact one of the greatest inventions of the humanity of all times, but today we have another major improvement in the process of writing which may be considered second in importance after typewriters. Word processors are simply computer programs designed to simplify and quicken the work of a writer, and not only the one whose profession is to write, but also anyone who needs to quickly create and format a text. Modern word processors have hundreds of functions, they may check your spelling, indicate some stylistic mistakes in your text, suggest better fonts, sizes, arrangements and so on. Without them formatting a text for a book or for a newspaper took a lot more time and effort. Besides, word processors allow changing or correcting the text without the necessity to print them, it's an interactive process. In fact, this very text has been written with a help of a word processor too. Not only novelists or journalists use computers for writing texts but also anybody else like authors of technical texts, script writers, authors of educational books and many others who need to quickly create a text without paying much attention to the technical aspect of the process. Today there are hundreds of such word processors, some of them are free and are not worse than the ones that are paid.
Besides writing, computers are used in film creation, for example for editing a scene or adding special effects to a movie. There are even huge companies hiring high-skilled programmers and designers to create special computer effects in movies, sometimes such work costs more than a half of the cost of a whole movie.
Painting and design are also impossible without computer programs today. All kinds of images like advertisements, photographs, pictures of all kinds are processed by a computer which helps to improve them without wasting much time and money. Such device as a stylus pen and a tablet are used by computer designers to draw characters of movies, computer games, cartoons or comic books.
